How to use Drag and Drop feature in iOS 11 (iPad only)

Drag and drop is among the highlights of iOS 11, and promises to offer users simpler way to interact with apps on their iPhone and iPad. Drag and drop feature really shines on the iPad, allowing users to drag and drop items between apps or even drag and drop apps themselves.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to use drag and drop feature in iOS 11 on your iPad Pro. Before we proceed with our look at what you can do with drag and drop, keep in mind that iOS 11 is now available in beta, and therefore likely to come with errors and bugs. It’s best to install iOS 11 beta on a secondary device rather than your primary device.

With drag and drop feature, you can move content from any app to another on your iPad. If you need help, check out our steps below.

Step one: First off, you need to open an app that contains files you wish to move to another app on your iPad. (In this post, we are going to take the Photos app as an example)

Step two: Once you are in, you simply need to touch and hold any image you wish to move and then drag it towards the Home button

Step three: Now, you have three options to move your image.

  • Press the home button (make sure that you are now holding the image). After that, head to the app where you wish to drop your image and release your finger to drop the file.
  • You can move your content using the new App Switcher in iOS 11. To do this, perform a double-press on the home button to access the App Switcher. From here, you will see the list of your recently-opened app. Select an app in which you wish to drop the file.
  • iOS 11 introduced a brand new Dock for the iPad. The new Dock allows you to access your most recently-used apps on your device. To access the Dock, you simply need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen and drop the file.

Step two: Next up, hit Browse at the bottom of the app and then select iCloud Drive under the Locations section

Step three: Head to the folder with multiple contents you wish to move. Once you are in, touch and hold files, and then bring up the Dock or open the App Switcher to drop the files

Step one: Launch the Files app from your home screen and then hit Browse at the bottom

Step two: Once you are in, navigate to the folders with files you wish to move. Tap and hold on those files and hit the Back button at the top (Make sure that you are still holding the content)

Step three: Now just simply head to the folder in which you wish to drop the files.
