How to fix: I forgot my iPhone’s passcode

Touch ID has become the standard feature on iPhone models, allowing users to quickly unlock their device with a simple touch. However, there are reasons to still set up a passcode on your iPhone. Setting up a passcode on an iPhone is pretty simple, but what if you forget your iPhone’s passcode?  Don’t panic because we will go through a few steps on how to deal with the situation.

If you enter the wrong passcode six times, you will get a message saying “your iPhone has been disabled”. There’s only one way to deal with this problem and the process may be a little bit confusing: Backing up your device and restoring from backup.

How to reset a forgotten password on your iPhone

  1. Back up your device

Backing up your device ranks among the smartest things to do if you want to protect your data against data corruption and hackers. In this case, you can back up your iOS device and then restore your device from backup to set up a new passcode.

Step one: First off, connect your iPhone to a Mac or Windows PC and then launch iTunes (make sure you now have the latest iTunes version installed on your computer)

Step two: Select your device when it shows up in iTunes (if you don’t see your device, re-connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes)

Step three: Hit Back Up Now (make sure you uncheck the box next to encrypt backup) and wait until the backup process is complete.

Once done, you now can delete your iPhone’s data and restore your device from your newly created iTunes backup.

Step one: Connect your iPhone to a Mac or a Windows PC and then open iTunes (make sure you are now running the latest version of iTunes on your computer)

Step two: Next up, hit Restore and the follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the Restore screen

Step three: Now just simply select Restore from iTunes backup and select your newly created backup.

Alternatively, you can restore your iPhone using a third-party app, called Reiboot. The app is completely free and helps you fix various common iOS issues.
