Apple iPhones are a high quality and reliable mobile phone, but that doesn’t mean that everything runs smoothly without any flaws. In reality, things can sometimes go wrong and ruin your day. If you have recently noticed that your iPhone is not ringing every time a new call comes in, then it could be due to a various reasons ranging from issues with your speakers to Do Not Disturb being enabled.
In this article, we will go through the five troubleshooting steps to fix an iPhone that is not ringing. Before we get started, make sure that you now have a modern version of iOS (iOS 10 or newer).
How to fix an iPhone that isn’t ringing
Make sure that your speakers still work
Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus feature a pair of loud stereo speakers at the bottom of the devices. The speakers are used for every sound that comes out from your iPhone. Basically, the speaker works pretty fine and outputs louder sound than past iPhone models, ranging from playing music to watching videos.
If you are not hearing calls from your iPhone, there is a good chance that you are now having issues with your speakers. To make sure that your speakers still work fine, try playing some music or music videos from a video app like YouTube. If nothing happens, get your speakers fixed.
Make sure that you have turned off Mute
If your iPhone is not ringing when you have an incoming call, it could be that you have accidentally enabled Mute on your device. You can turn the ringer back on by checking the Mute Switch on the side of the device. Alternatively, head to Settings > Sounds and turn on the switch for Ringer and Alerts.
Turn off Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb has been available since the days of iOS 6. Once enabled, it automatically silences calls, alerts, and notifications while your device is locked. While this is a great feature, as it prevents your device from making any noise or lighting up the screen when you are in a meeting, one major drawback is that you may miss important phone calls.
To turn it off, you simply need to go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and turn off the switch for Manual. If you want to keep the Do Not Disturb enabled, but still get calls from your favorite contacts, turn on the switch for Allow Calls From.
Make sure that you have not blocked the caller
If you don’t get calls from a specific contact, but you still get ringtones from others, there is a good chance that you have already blocked that caller on your iPhone. If you are not sure, head to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification. Here, you will see the list of the phone numbers you have blocked on your iPhone. Make sure that the number that someone is trying to call you from is not included on the list. (Edit > Red Circle > Unblock).
Make sure that your ringtone still works
If the problem still persists, try checking your ringtone. There are times when your ringtone get corrupted, causing you to miss important calls. To deal with the issue, you can set a new default ringtone. To do this, head to Settings > Sounds > Ringtone and select your option. If the problem is not solved, try assigning a new ringtone to the number that is trying to call you. You can do this by going to Settings > Contacts > locate the name > Edit.
