A brazilian company posted in their blog a video showing iPhone 3G working with a SIM card of a local operator.

One million iPhone 3G sold in 4 days

Apple Inc. announced one million iPhone 3G sold so far. The new device was officially put in sale on July 11th. That lead to increasing the corporation shares by 2%.
